SikhRI presents one-day conference titled Revolutionary in Oneness

250-13450 102 Ave19 Oct '19 @ 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) has organized a one-day conference titled “Revolutionary in Oneness,” celebrating the 550th anniversay of Guru Nanak Sahib through a contemporary reflection on the concepts that ignited a spiritual and temporal revolution in South Asia. The conference will take place on October 19th, at the beautiful new addition to the Surrey Campus of Simon Fraser University, at the Sustainable Energy Engineering building.

The conference will explore the philosophies that shaped spiritual and temporal life in South Asia and challenge common perceptions of Guru Nanak Sahib. The speakers are subject-matter experts varying from scholars to poets to artists, who have brought the principles of Guru Nanak Sahib to life through their various mediums, expounding on the initiation of the “Raj” that was to be the foundation for the Sikh way of life.

“Guru Nanak Sahib’s 550 years Prakash Purab (illumination day) is about the light that shines like the Sun and the proclamation that roars like the Lion. Guru Nanak Sahib unequivocally rejected exclusivism and caste hierarchy of existing religious traditions. Instead, the Guru created a highly egalitarian society in which all human beings were treated with dignity and seen as equal,” says Harinder Singh, SikhRI’s co-founder.

“Guru Nanak Sahib traveled extensively and interacted with religious, spiritual and political heads as well as commoners,” says Inni Kaur, SikhRI’s Creative Director, and one of the presenters at the conference. “Guru Nanak Sahib’s IkOankar declaration is not about there being one God but about the Oneness in creation. The Oneness which we are all a part of, knowingly or unknowingly.”

“Have you ever felt that Oneness? Are you even aware of the Oneness? Do you want to understand this Oneness? We will explore these questions and more at the conference,” says Inni Kaur.
