PechaKucha Night Surrey Vol. 6: SUSTAINABILITY

Centre Stage24 Mar '16 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
  • PechaKucha Night Surrey Vol. 6: SUSTAINABILITY

Centre Stage at City Hall is pleased to partner with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), to present PechaKucha Night Surrey Vol. 6: Sustainability.

What does sustainability mean? Faculty from various departments at KPU—including Anthropology, CADD Technologies, Creative Writing, Horticulture, and Psychology—took up the challenge to explore this question.

The result is a show-and-tell evening of images, ideas and inspiration. Ten fast-paced presentations cover topics from Undiscovered Virtues of Weeds by Lily LiutoIncorporating Aboriginal Wisdom to Promote Eco-literacy by June Kaminski, to Four Simple Things You Can Do to Save Honeybees by Farhad Dastur.

It’s a fun, social evening, with live music by Borealis String Quartet, a dynamic world-class ensemble that has brought passion, refined musical interpretation and spectacular entertainment to 16 years of performances. Comprised of Patricia Shih on violin, Nikita Pogrebnoy on viola, Sungyong Lim on cello and Yuel Yawney on violin, the group is currently the string quartet-in-residence at KPU where they teach KPU music students and performs across campuses. www.borealisstringquartet.com

PechaKucha is a presentation format where 20 images are shown for 20 seconds each. The images advance automatically as the presenter speaks, making each presentation fast and fun. The format was devised by Astrid KIein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham architecture. The first PechaKucha Night was held in Tokyo in 2003 and has since spread to over 800 cities around the world. Centre Stage at City Hall is excited to be an Authorised City in the PechaKucha family.www.pechakucha.org
