Kaur Project - Live, hosted by Kaur Project

Museum of Surrey17710 56A Avenue10 Mar '19 @ 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Kaur Stories. Told Live is hosted by Kaur Project. This night will feature Kaurs who will recount their life experiences of bravery, regrets, sorrow, and of course courageous happiness.

How this works?: During this immersive experience, attendees will have the opportunity to participate by asking questions, engaging in dialogue, and building empathy and deep connections within and between communities – all while listening to riveting Kaur stories, told live.

***This event is open to EVERYONE!***

For this incredible evening, we have partnered with the Museum of Surrey and Darpan Magazine to share Kaur stories in a live setting. Both organizations align with Kaur Projects belief in inspiring confidence and self-reflection for the community at large.

We are honoured to host a night where Kaurs and their allies can come together to feel, to be seen, to be heard, and be connected. We are honoured to share and be inspired by their stories of fearlessness. We welcome you to join us.

The timing is intentional. Up until this point, Kaur Project has created a space to share Kaur stories, now we are also creating live spaces for Kaur conversations and storytelling.

    What is a Kaur?
Kaur is a unifying identity that honours the sisterhood Sikh women share. Sikh women take on the middle or last name Kaur as a means of challenging the classism/casteism inherent in traditional South Asian last names. A liberation from the systems and hierarchies of the world. They are not necessarily related. Further, adopting Kaur as a last name challenges the patriarchal system of women having to take their husband or father's names.
