In an attempt to build understanding and move forward together, we'd like to invite women who identify as Kaurs to sit down and have dinner with us. There are many avenues to be heard; Kaur Project - Conversations is an avenue to empower Kaurs to listen and engage in conversations.
How this works: Kaur Project conversation dinners consist of respectful conversation, guided activities, and delicious food shared among 50 or more Kaurs who have differing viewpoints, and their best interests at heart.
Our guests will have the opportunity to exchange stories, engage in dialogue, and begin to build empathy and understanding for one another – all while sharing a delicious meal and having some fun.
The timing is intentional. Up until this point, Kaur Project has created a space to share Kaur stories, now we are also creating live spaces for Kaur conversations and storytelling. If you’re curious to hear from someone outside your circle or looking for a space to share your point of view in an open and respectful atmosphere, join us.
What is a Kaur?
Kaur is a unifying identity that honours the sisterhood Sikh women share. Sikh women take on the middle or last name Kaur as a means of challenging the classism/casteism inherent in traditional South Asian last names. A liberation from the systems and hierarchies of the world. They are not necessarily related. Further, adopting Kaur as a last name challenges the patriarchal system of women having to take their husband or father's names.
