This year my ELL and Marketing students are working together to create John Oliver Secondary’s very first clothing upcycling program, it's called J&O (like H&M)
They get clothing donated from the community. The clothing is washed and then sorted by the Life Skills students. The ELL students work on managing the store while the marketing team organizes social media, competitions and fashion shows.
All of the clothing is free and it's for everyone in the community. There is a great need for this program and many students have benefited from the clothing. J&O is trying to get rid of the stigma associated with free/used clothing and shopping at thrift stores by making this program apart of the school culture.
On November 23rd from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM J&O will be open to everyone in the community at John Oliver Secondary (41st avenue Entrance).
