  • It’s time to Disco Dandiya
The Gujarati Society of BC presents family event for all ages, we promise this will be a ridiculous amount of fun! ZeeTV Canada Disco Dandiya takes place this Saturday, October 22 at 8pm at the prestigious Hard Rock Casino Theatre.

Last year, an estimated 3,000 people attended the Disco Dandiya which was effectively sold out. This year’s larger venue promises to hold dancers, has a viewing area with seats in the balcony, and two large lobbies to facilitate young families with baby strollers.

Dandiya is the traditional folk dance form from the western most state of Gujarat, India where participants dance with sticks, often in partners or groups. Strangers become friends through the common platform of dance as it is the group setting that has appeal and promotes togetherness. The term ‘disco’ was added by use of the western drum to the beat, and today Disco Dandiya fuses traditional Gujarati tunes and new Bollywood tracks seamlessly. Featuring Vancouver's premier DJ company X-FUSION ROADSHOW, music who spin non-stop from the 8p start until 2am.

So, how does one obtain dandiya sticks? Either you can buy them on site or GSBC offers free dandiya rentals! The Hard Rock Casino also offers free coatcheck and free parking. For those of you taking transit, the venue offers free shuttle buses to and from Braid Street Skytrain Station until 1am.
