God’s Lake at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts

Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Studio Theatre Reserved 6450 Deer Lake Avenue05 Feb '20 to 08 Feb '20 @ 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM

God’s Lake, an original work of documentary theatre by Castlereigh Theatre Project, is onstage at the Shadbolt Centre’s Studio Theatre from Feb. 5 to 8.

Written by playwright Francesca Albright and award-winning Swampy Cree filmmaker Kevin Lee Burton, and directed by Atomic Vaudeville’s Britt Small, the play tells the story of the resilience of the people living in the remote fly-in reserve of God’s Lake Narrows, Manitoba, following the unsolved murder of a teenage girl in the community. It’s told verbatim from interviews conducted with residents over six months in 2017.

With an original live score by Ziibiwan and Melody McKiver, the plays’s heightened physicality and stunning visual imagery combine to give the audience an insight into the complex issues facing people living in a remote community. The production serves to increase understanding for those who have no comprehension of the reserve system – let alone what it’s like to live on a remote First Nations reserve.

The cast features Erica Wilson, Aqqalu, Ashley Cook and Nick Benz.
