Follow clues to complete art scavenger hunt at Surrey Art Gallery

Surrey Art Gallery08 Feb '20 @ 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Families are invited to Surrey Art Gallery on February 8 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. for Art on the Loose, a drop-in art scavenger hunt! Admission is free. Everyone is welcome—children must be with an adult.

Using a list of clues, participants will engage their senses and investigative skills to complete the challenge. Through the process they will discover a variety of artwork in the Gallery and around Surrey Arts Centre, like a responsive sound piece and a spinning artwork. Participants are welcome to dress like a detective!

Families are also welcome to visit the ArtMaker Stations around the arts centre. These stations are designed to encourage visitors to think about art and creativity with a hands-on approach. Inspired by Keith Rice-Jones’s Monumental Sculptures in the Gallery’s courtyard, families can work together to construct their own miniature versions. They can also make a spinning top modelled after Maurice Van Der Beke’s interactive artwork Mandala After Prayer Wheel.

This event is presented in partnership with Surrey Art Gallery Association (SAGA). SAGA is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 and run by volunteers who support Surrey Art Gallery in many important ways, including fundraising, partnership programming, and contributing to the Gallery’s permanent collection.

“Art on the Loose is an exciting event for families with children,” says Joanne Dennis, Surrey Art Gallery Association President. “We are pleased to offer this free and fun event for families in our community to connect over contemporary art and learn a bit more about what SAGA and the Gallery do.”
