In recognition of Surrey’s upcoming first-ever Agriculture Week (September 13–17), the City of Surrey and local eateries are sowing the seeds of a unique dining series called Farm Fresh Sundays.
Starting September 4and continuing every Sunday throughout the month of September, residents are encouraged to support Surrey’s rich local agricultural industry by dining and eating “local” at a variety of Surrey restaurants showcasing specially designed dinner menus featuring a minimum of two-thirds locally farmed ingredients. A list of participating restaurants and menus can be found surrey.ca/farmfresh.
“Agriculture has been, and continues to play an important role in Surrey’s socioeconomic framework throughout the past century,” said Mayor Linda Hepner. “I encourage everyone to support our local restaurants and sample the bounty of the fall harvest at Farm Fresh Sundays.”
Farm Fresh Sundays is the kick-off to Agriculture Week (September 13-17), which will celebrate the complexities and contributions of Surrey's food industry with a variety of family, workshop and speaker events taking place at Surrey City Hall (13450 104 Avenue).
“Farm Fresh Sundays will showcase the variety of fresh foods that are farmed right here in Surrey, while economically and sustainably supporting both the farmers and the restaurants,” said Councillor Mike Starchuk,Chair, Agriculture & Food Security Advisory Committee. “We hope to grow this event annually.”
