The 73rd annual Cloverdale Rodeo and 131st annual Country Fair is packing more entertainment than ever. If you’re looking for family-centred activities, action-packed rodeo sport, great music and everything in between this May long weekend, the Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair at the Cloverdale Exhibition Grounds is where you can find it all.
A country fair just wouldn’t be the same without great food – and the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair is no exception. Apart from all your favourite fair foods, rib lovers will rejoice at the triumphant return of Rib Fest. Come try a wide-variety of succulent, spicy, smoky and sweet fall-off-the-bone ribs. Things are going to get saucy!
Once your belly is full, you’ll be able to check out some true Canadian heritage at the West Coast Lumberjack Show. Performing all over the world since 1982, the West Coast Lumberjack Show promises to offer tons of action. Events like axe throwing, log rolling, chair carving, hot saw racing, standing block chop and much more will have you on the edge of your seat and perhaps even on the tips of your toes.
Back by popular demand, art lovers will be able to get their fill at the West Fine Art Show. The highly popular Show is presenting 18 exceptionally talented western Canadian artists and their breathtaking interpretations of the western Canadian lifestyle. Beautifully staged, the West Fine Art Show offers an exceptional art collection enriched by the soothing and artistic ambience provided by internationally acclaimed guitarist John Gilliat. Visitors to the show will enjoy the opportunity to meet and speak with each artist, all of whom will be in attendance. A popular feature of the Show is the Remembering Jeff Robinson display which pays tribute to Jeff, an exceptional artist who battled Crohn’s Disease for much of his life. Other highlights include the children’s art centre, the 19 and older wine bar and a special exhibition entitled Emerging Young Artists which features a collection of art created by local students Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School.
Looking to dance your troubles away this May long weekend? Well get ready for all you can handle. This year features a slew of amazing musical acts to get you tapping your toes and cutting a rug. Check out Dave Hartney’s blend of modern country and southern rock Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the World Famous Longhorn Saloon. And while you’re there, hear all your favorite tunes played by cover band Ettinger & Big 50. And you absolutely can’t miss out on 23-time Country Music Award winners Washboard Union. Step-brothers Aaron Grain and Chris Duncombe will be towing the stage with their best friend David John Roberts Sunday night from 10:15-1130pm.
If the weather holds up, and it almost always does, you’ll want to spend as much time as you can outside. Good news: you don’t have to miss out on live music when you do. The Lordco Outdoor Stage Schedule will be rocking all weekend with musical acts like four-time BCCMA nominated Whiskey Jane Band, the bluegrass-country-rock stylings of The Rollin’ Trainwreck and Emily Taylor Adams – one of country music’s fastest rising young stars.
It wouldn’t be the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair without the rodeo parade. Families come from all over B.C. and beyond to check out the parade that features over 1,000 participants. This year’s parade will start at 10am on Saturday, May 18 and follow its usual route — from the corner of 177B St. and Highway #10 and heading west on Hwy #10 to 176 St. Keep an eye out for your favorite and most innovative floats which will be entered to win prizes. The winners will be announced following the parade’s rollout. To get your day started off right and your tummy in the western spirit, there are a variety of food vendors cookin’ up pancakes and sausages. This traditional parade has a variety of floats, marching bands, dance groups, clowns, horses, dogs, vintage cars/race cars/trucks/tractors/fire trucks, classic Shelby Mustangs and custom cars.
The Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair always promises fun and games for the entire family, and this year is no exception. Enjoy a variety of games and rides for the whole family at West Coast Amusements. Bring your skill and check your accuracy, our games test your abilities to shoot, pin, throw and more. Some of our concession games give a prize every time. Prove you have what it takes to win the biggest prizes at the show and gain some bragging rights in the process.
Looking for kids-activities involving less spinning? Then mosey on down to the Kids Zone area that teaches kids the finer details about what it takes to be a real cowboy or cowgirl. ‘Skully’ the bad cowboy has been causing trouble and only the best trained cowboys and cowgirls can beat him. Kids will work through a checklist ticking off various training challenges. Once the challenges are completed, they can enter them to win prizes each day, with one grand prize being awarded at the end. The zone is an 18,000-square-foot haven of interactive displays, art, musical performers and more.
