Enter a space filled with the seductive strains of a piano, beckoning you to sit at dimly lit tables and engage with the captivating hostess (Melanie Yeats) who seems to see through to your deepest desires. The sensuality of her bewitching laugh is matched only by her biting repartee.
Somehow though, you want more than anything to have her turn her sharp tongue on you. She begins to sing about her obsession with a tiny-handed, powerful man. Your cheeks flush as you wonder: Is it just me, or is it getting hotter in here?
An original cabaret with live piano accompaniment, The Fever Cabaret brings three earnest and hilarious characters to life through one charismatic performer. Writer and director Cory Philley says, "Melanie and I have played with cabaret before and loved the idea of using the irreverence of this kind of theatrical experience to explore some of our most confounding personal obsessions. Together, Joel and Melanie’s soulful, captivating performances invite the audience to take pleasure in peeking into the dirty secrets that consume us."
Performer and producer Melanie Yeats adds, "Cory’s writing is always equal parts funny, lyrical, and raw. Joel was the perfect collaborator to join us; he has an amazing gift for musical storytelling and a wicked sense of humour. I love connecting with audiences in such an intimate setting to tell these stories."
