Boca del Lupo Remounts These Are The Songs That I Sing When I'm Sad

The Fishbowl13 Mar '18 to 17 Mar '18 @ 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
  • Boca del Lupo Remounts These Are The Songs That I Sing When I'm Sad
These Are The Songs That I Sing When I’m Sad is an intimate, interactive performance by the remarkable singer Jane Miller. Through storytelling and songs, Jane explores the sad songs that have played a role in her life and delves into the link between deep emotions and the musical elements that make these songs so addictive. Audience members are drawn into the action when their favourite sad songs are requested and, in some cases, played by Jane in real-time. Sad Songs examines why we identify certain songs as sad or melancholy, and others as joyful, beautiful or triumphant, and how they weave themselves into our lives.

As leaders in Micro Performance, Boca del Lupo originally premiered Sad Songs in 2017 to support its creation, development, and future touring success. In this limited five night run, Boca brings Sad Songs back to their home venue, The Fishbowl, to share the show's growth with past show fans and new Vancouver audiences.

Co-creator Brian Quirt says, “The 2017 run affirmed the breadth of audiences that connect with the show and the topic of sad songs; and as our premiere, the run helped us secure future bookings based on reviews and word-of-mouth about the production.” For this upcoming performance with Boca del Lupo, Quirt adds, “We’ll be maintaining the interactive conversation with the audience from the last run, while exploring more of the scientific research that reveals the depths of our addiction to sad songs.” Quirt is also the founder and Artistic Director of Nightswimming, a company that commissions and develops new works of theatre, dance, and music.

Presented by Boca del Lupo Theatre, as part of the Micro Performance Series. March 13 – 17, 2018. 8PM, nightly, at The Fishbowl, 100-1398 Cartwright Street, Granville Island, Vancouver. $25 General Admission, $15 Student/Senior/Artist for purchase at bocadellupo.com or at the door.
