After two hit runs on the Granville Island stage (2013, 2014) and a successful BC tour (2014), the irreverent Avenue Q is back and ready to spike your holiday punch!
Avenue Q follows the adorably naïve Princeton (Andrew MacDonald-Smith), a bright-eyed college graduate who arrives in New York City looking for love, a job, and his purpose in life. The only neighbourhood he can afford is the multicultural Avenue Q, where humans coexist with scandalous Sesame Street-esque puppets. Outright uproarious and absolutely un-PC, Avenue Q won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Musical and this production won the 2013 Jessie Richardson Theatre Award for Outstanding Musical.
Artistic Managing Director Bill Millerd says, “Avenue Q is one of the most popular shows we have presented at the Granville Island Stage. With its inventive combination of acerbic wit and hilarious storytelling, seven actors play twelve characters, including some very naughty puppets!”
Director Peter Jorgensen adds, "On a pretentious level, Avenue Q is about examining the fine, fine line between reality and fantasy as we struggle to find ourselves as adults. But on a more base level it's about puppets having sex in every way we could imagine."
