Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival

    The Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival (VISAFF) is back for it’s 8th year.
     
    Opening Gala Night + Feature Film Presentation: Mehsampur
     
    You definitely don't want to miss this year's Opening Gala. Held on Thursday November 22nd, at Surrey City Hall (13450 104 Avenue Surrey, BC), the evening begins at 6pm with a red carpet, appetizers and cocktails as part of the pre-reception, followed by a screening of Mehsampur,a MAMI Mumbai Grand Jury Prize winning film, having it’s North American premier at VISAFF.
     
    Following the film, audiences will have a Q&A opportunity with Director Kabir Chowdhry, about his daring film that attempts to untangle the threads around the death of legendary Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Also in attendance Creative Producer of Mehsampur, Sapna Bhavnani. The Opening Gala closes with a light dinner. 
     
    Please note, Mehsampur is a mature film with provocative and explicit content, viewer discretion is advised. 
     
    Closing Day Film - Special Presentation: Manto
     
    Also gracing the festival this year, is Manto, Nandita Das' much awaited biographical drama about the daring and controversial famous Urdu author Saadat Hasan Manto. Lead by Sacred Games' Nawazudin Siddiqui, Manto is a film that North American audiences have been eagerly awaiting. he main narrative follows Manto through the time of India’s Independence in which he experiences several major life events and is interwoven with some of his most famous stories. Incredibly poignant and sincere, Manto illustrates the importance of storytelling.
