Monsoon Festival of Performing Arts

Vancouver Art Gallery & other locations09 Aug '18 to 19 Aug '18 @ 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM
  • Monsoon Festival of Performing Arts
August is almost here, and with that we present to you the 3rd annual Monsoon Festival of Performing Arts, which runs August 9 to 19 in Surrey and Vancouver. Kicking off in less than two weeks, we are very proud to present two unique, Canadian shows to audiences across the Lower Mainland.

During a span of 11 days, festival highlights include: Anita Majumdar's critically acclaimed, one-woman play, The Fish Eyes Trilogy (Toronto), which has toured internationally; Paneet Singh's site-specific show based on historical events, The Undocumented Trial of William C. Hopkinson (Vancouver); an Industry Series featuring staged readings, development workshops in dramaturgy, playwriting, directing, acting, movement, and postshow talkbacks.

The Undocumented Trial of William C. Hopkinson (Vancouver)
Revisit the Vancouver Provincial Courthouse in October of 1914 to re-examine the trial of Mewa Singh. This play is being staged at the same location where the original trial took place over 100 years ago.
Aug. 10th to 12th at Vancouver Art Gallery

The Fish Eyes Trilogy (Toronto)
Anita Majumdar’s one-person trilogy is a window into the lives of Canadian South Asian teens. Presented in two parts.
Aug. 18th at Surrey Arts Centre in Surrey

These FREE community based initiatives are excellent opportunities to both view art and also immerse yourself into the artistic process. Sign up for a workshop that will surely get your creative juices flowing, or attend one of the readings nights and just kick back, relax and take in the beautiful words from our talented presenters.
