Diwali Fest's "Diwali Downtown" is a free, family-friendly extravaganza that brings together the best of contemporary and classical South Asian culture, including music, dance performances, a room-sized rangoli, diya lamp painting, and delicious cuisine. This year, the event will also showcase other cultures with the theme of 'unity in diversity'.
Guests will be treated to performances by the Bengali Cultural Society, Vancouver Area Telugu Association, Get Bent Bollywood Belly Dancers, Jacky Yenga & Friends, and Shiamak Vancouver.
Mayor Gregor Robertson will be in attendance wishing everyone a Happy Diwali and enjoying the performances. The Diwali Fest team will recognize his support for the festival with a small token of appreciation.
In addition, famous designer duo "Parvesh Jai" will be a highlight at this year's Diwali Downtown Vancouver with a fashion show to reveal their festive collection. The runway show will be a treat to watch, with the duo's signature style hand painted sarees draped in a very unusual way for an urban look with wearable comfort. The complete collection will have feminine ethnic ensembles with traditional Indian Silhouettes. Men's Sherwani and Indian tradition style kurtas will rule the ramp. All in all, the whole Parvesh Jai collection will compliment the festivity of Diwali. Contemporary hand embroidery details on ensembles will be dipped in essence of Indian heritage and culture.
