Othello has risen to become a respected military commander who thrives in his hard-won position of power. He and his beautiful wife Desdemona are deeply in love. Yet he loses it all as he is betrayed by Iago and succumbs to blind jealousy. Shakespeare's tale of a fatally flawed leader and the master manipulator who destroys him is set amidst the violence and racism of the American Civil War.
