Hermès at Work

  • Hermès at Work
Hermès is pleased to announce plans for the arrival of the “Hermès at Work” exhibition in Vancouver. This travelling event brings Hermès craftspeople from the intimacy of their ateliers in France to meet the public and demonstrate their craft.

The “Hermès at Work” festival will be presented in Jack Poole Plaza, within the picturesque Coal Harbour area of downtown Vancouver, from September 21-25 2016.

Making an Hermès object requires time, materials, tools, talent, emotion, intelligent minds and skillful hands. Behind every finishing touch, there is a starting point. Behind every technical accomplishment, there is a long apprenticeship and ceaseless endeavour. Behind every finely tuned gesture, there is the right tool, a history and a name. Behind the smallest detail, there is a human being, guided by a watchful eye and pride in work well done.

This engaging public event provides a fascinating insight into the traditions and values of Hermès in the crafting of fine objects; a presentation that encourages interaction by giving visitors in Vancouver the opportunity to meet and exchange with the Hermès artisans and experience first-hand their unique savoir-faire. Visitors will see the famous Hermès silk scarf printed before their eyes. Iconic objects from Hermès, such as handbags, saddles, fine jewellery and watches will be brought to life during the course of the exhibition.

Celebrating the occasion of “Hermès at Work”, Hermès Vancouver will present special storefront windows designed by Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave. Through trompe l’œil effects using her cherished medium of colour and paper, Isabelle de Borchgrave depicts daily scenes in the Hermès saddlery, leather and silk ateliers in France.

“Hermès at Work” is admission free and open to the public.

Today, communities across Canada have little knowledge of the role Indians played in World War I and the shared history with their Canadian counterparts. Lest we forget, IMFC plans to commemorate those that lost their lives on the Western Front. To mark the centennial of the landing of Indian Troops in France in September 1914 a series of upcoming free events is planned for this Fall
