  • Vancouver Pro Musica presents Ad Mare Wind Quintet
Vancouver ProMusica is proud to present the renowned Ad Mare Wind Quintet in a special matinee concert on Sunday, June 3 at 2pm.

Lauded across Canada as one of our country’s best chamber music groups, the Ad Mare Wind Quintet was founded in Vancouver in 2001 by clarinetist AK Coope and bassoonist Sophie Dansereau. Since its beginning, Ad Mare has performed music from a variety of musical genres and premiered more than a dozen works.

The talented andaccomplishedmembers of the Quintet hail from across Canada – from east to west. They are: Marea Chernoff (oboe), AK Coope (clarinet), Sophie Dansereau (bassoon), Andrew Mee (horn), and Rosanne Wieringa (flute). Each is involved in many facets of Vancouver’s musical life, as members of the Vancouver Symphony and Opera Orchestras, among others, new music ensembles including the Turning Point Ensemble and Standing Wave, chamber groups, and as faculty members at various educational institutions.

Quintet members arealso actively involved in promoting musical culture in many areas of the Lower Mainland.Their performance highlights include live broadcasts on CBC’s Westcoast Performance and Radio-Canada’s Les Musiciens du Dimanche, performances at Vancouver Pro Musica’s annual Sonic Boom Festival, The Little Chamber Music Series That Could, UBC School of Music’s Recital Series and at the Pacific Rim Summer Music Festival in Tofino.

Their name, Ad Mare, is taken from the Canadian coat of arms “A mariusque ad mare” and translates as “between two seas” - reflecting the group’s pan-Canadian origins – from Nova Scotia to Vancouver.

Involved educators as well, Ad Mare have presented free live chamber music recitals throughout the schools of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland as participants in the Chamber Music in the School organization.

The June 3 concert with the Ad Mare Wind Quintet promises to be an entertaining, engaging and enlightening afternoon in the company of some of Vancouver’s finest musicians.
