Show One Productions proudly presents Russia’s unequaled piano virtuoso, Denis Matsuev, in his hotly anticipated return to the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC, October 20, 2016 at 8pm. The internationally celebrated soloist, famed for his inimitable interpretations of esteemed piano masterworks, will perform a sublime program of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Schumann, and Prokofiev.
“As part of our ongoing mission to bring peerless performers to Canada, we are thrilled to welcome Denis Matsuev back to Vancouver,” said Svetlana Dvoretsky, Founder & Executive Producer of Show One Productions.
Denis Matsuev captured the world’s attention following his triumphant win at the 11th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. He has since become legendary for his mastery over a staggering breadth of piano works with signature technique in a league of its own. Known for his poetic instinct, and ability to put his own distinct mark on each masterpiece he conquers, Matsuev was recently hailed by the Montreal Devoir as, “a pianist without equal on the planet and with few equals in the history of the piano.”
As a first rank soloist, Matsuev is regularly called to perform in sold out recitals at New York’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Salle Gaveau in Paris, and Royal Albert Hall in London. The prodigious keyboardist has enjoyed successful collaborations with such illustrious conductors as Valery Gergiev, Lorin Maazel, Yuri Temirkanov, Maris Jansons, Vladimir Spivakov, and Zubin Mehta.
In addition to the vast musical contributions Matsuev has made over his career, he has been an avid supporter of music education. Matsuev serves as President to the charitable Russian foundation New Names, an organization that discovers and nurtures young talent. Through New Names, 10,000 children have received monetary grants and/or opportunities to perform at the professional stage. In recognition of his humanitarian efforts, UNESCO designated Matsuev as its Goodwill Ambassador in April 2014.
