On 31 March, Vancouver's leading arts supporters will gather for an evening of fashion and glamour in the Pacific Ballroom at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver for BMO Overture: All That Glitters, VO's signature fundraising gala.
"Vancouver Opera thanks BMO Financial Group for its headline sponsorship of the event. Our sponsors, donors, and patrons are the lifeblood of VO. Money raised will help support Vancouver Opera Festival, which boasts numerous educational and community events that will stimulate appreciation of the art form and bring opera to new and expanded audiences," says Kim Gaynor, General Director at Vancouver Opera.
Headlining this black-tie gala is a fashion show featuring the work of Canadian super talent Sid Neigum, who has been commissioned by VO to design costumes for The Marriage of Figaro at the Vancouver Opera Festival. Attendees of BMO Overture: All That Glitters will receive an exclusive, up-close preview of his creations for the Festival as well as his Fall/Winter 2017 collection.
Neigum's designs will be complemented with a remixed opera score by electronic music producer Phil Western and sets and lighting design from Emmy Award winning cinematographer Craig Trudeau. The evening will also include performances by festival operatic artists accompanied by members of the VO Orchestra.
"It'll be a glamorous event with a unique collaboration. The show will be a fusion of contemporary fashion, music, and staging, coupled with the joy of the operatic aria. We're playing off the beauty of the historic Pacific Ballroom and taking it into more futuristic directions," says Thomas Anselmi, Creative Director at BMO Overture.
Other highlights include a gourmet dinner prepared by the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver's culinary team as well as a live auction with opulent offerings that have been donated by Vancouver Opera’s generous sponsors. This year big-ticket items include international getaways to Paris for Fashion Week, Bayreuth for Wagner's Ring, the Swiss Alps for The Verbier Festival, and much more to be announced.
"We look forward to seeing everyone at this exceptional, not-to-be-missed event. Everyone’s generous support will ensure the success of our inaugural festival in the spring and help build a community that brings people together," says Julia Kim, Committee Chair of BMO Overture: All That Glitters.

On November 19, a community event will bring together service agencies, researchers, youth and members of the public to discuss how to build those healthy relationships, and how to end those that aren’t.
The purpose of this event is to bring the community together, to promote health and to raise money for a great cause. The RED FM Walk & Run is a 2k walk, 5k & 10k run through the beautiful walking trails of Bear Creek Park.
Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) CEO Charan Gill is often asked why he is so passionate about building a culturally-sensitive long term seniors home.
