On May 29th 2014 the North Shore Salvation Army Shields will be hosting North Vancouver's first ever national Canada Street Soccer Cup.
Approximately 100 players and team officials from Toronto, Montreal, Seattle, Vancouver, Kelowna and Vancouver Island will be participating in the tournament. All players participating suffer from homelessness, mentally ilnesses and other significant challenges. The purpose of the tournament is to empower at-risk people through the power of sport. It not only provides the opportunity for them to play soccer, but also the chance for them to build friendships and a sense of community by connecting with other players facing similar challenges.
The Canada Street Soccer Cup will be held at Kinsmen Field in North Vancouver, BC.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at 1:30 pm on Thursday followed by games until 3:00 pm. Media will be able to get great photos players in action and interviews with coaches and players, who they can talk to the media about their stories and their involvement in street soccer.
