On October 21, 2017, The Semiahmoo Foundation will be hosting its Gala of Shooting Stars, a fundraiser that will benefit the development of affordable and inclusive housing in White Rock and Surrey.
On the same night, The Semiahmoo Foundation will also be launching UNITI, the new umbrella name representing a triad of registered non-profit organizations that have existed in White Rock and Surrey for decades: Semiahmoo House Society, Peninsula Estates Housing Society and The Semiahmoo Foundation. Whenever referring to the collaborative work between these three affiliated societies, the name UNITI will be used.
One of UNITI’s such collaboration resulted in the development of Chorus, the inclusive and affordable rental apartment building located at 2358 153rd Street in Surrey. The development is labelled affordable and inclusive because it offers rental units that are eligible for subsidies and provides 71 homes to diverse people, including people with developmental disabilities receiving support by Semiahmoo House Society.
“Chorus is more than a building”, says Doug Tennant, UNITI’s CEO. “It is a social phenomenon, symbolizing that inclusiveness and affordability are an authentic and realizable vision. The success of Chorus has created a template for future affordable and inclusive housing projects that UNITI will be leading in White Rock and Surrey in to meet additional demand for this type of housing in our community.”
All proceeds from the Gala of Shooting Stars will be allocated to a fund designated for the development of additional inclusive and affordable housing in our community. The Gala will be held on October 21, 2017 at Hazelmere Golf and Tennis Club located at 18150 8th Avenue, Surrey. Reception will begin at 5:30.
