The Cultch presents The WonderWombs

York Theatre, 639 Commercial Drive14 Jan '20 to 19 Jan '20 @ 7:30 PM - 11:00 PM

The Cultch is thrilled to present The WonderWombs, from The Dust Palace (New Zealand), Jan 14-19, 2020 at the York Theatre. The WonderWombs is part of The Cultch’s fourth annual Femme Series; a series of shows and events intended to highlight female-identifying voices and experiences. This event uses an inclusive definition of femme, and includes all self-identifying female, trans, and non-binary folks.

Eating binaries for breakfast and unfastening the buckles at gender’s waistline, these performers don’t need to hit the glass ceiling; they can lift it!

The WonderWombs brings to life powerful and intersectional feminist ideas with the magic of circus. In an ever-intensifying series of vignettes, seven incredible female and non-binary circus performers weave their message together with mind-boggling aerials, acrobatics, burlesque, dance, spoken word, and performance art. What results is a feminist circus party with surprises around every corner.

Known to Cultch audiences for its circus interpretation of Christina Rossetti’s poem The Goblin Market, New Zealand’s preeminent circus theatre company, The Dust Palace presents fun, exhilarating circus and theatrical entertainment, which is intimate, visually stunning, and brave in its frankness about human nature. The WonderWombs explores intoxicating muscularity over toxic masculinity; a chance to celebrate women, investigate physicality and womanhood, and ‘have a laugh with the ladies’.
