BlueShore Events, CapU Theatre presents Macbeth

The BlueShore at CapU 2055 Purcell Way14 Nov '19 to 23 Nov '19 @ 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Widely considered Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy, this innovative production of Macbeth promises to be bold, bloody, resolute – and magical.

Yes, that is correct. This production of Macbeth is set in a wizarding world not unlike the one a certain boy wizard found himself transported to years ago. The themes of magic, thirst for power and murder set the stage for a production that will be truly spellbinding.

While Shakespeare weaved elements of the supernatural throughout, his story remains an examination of moral conflict driven by fear, ambition and aspiration.

There are similarities between the world of Harry Potter and Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Both settings are fantastical and magical, where curses abound and nothing is as it seems. Voldemort and Macbeth are similar in that both are revered and promising leaders, both become obsessed with power, and each stops at nothing to rule over their separate realms. Likewise, Harry and Macduff represent the good – they are the protectors and defenders of peace. The stories culminate with the battles of good over evil.

While not exactly set in the Harry Potter realm, this production takes place in a world accustomed to magic, where witches and wizards rule – fully embracing the struggle for power and tyranny through sorcery, spells and witchraft. If you can imagine wands replacing swords, things move in the shadows, and magic rules – then this production is one not to miss.

The 2019-2020 CapU season continues with Morris Panych’s “7 Stories” (Feb. 4-8, 2020) and “A Chorus Line” (March 19-28, 2020).

CapU Theatre showcases the work of students from the Acting for Stage and Screen, Musical Theatre, Technical Theatre and Costuming Programs at Capilano University.
