Actor Johny Depp says he is fascinated with technology and its connection with power in his latest role in sci-fi thriller "Transcendence".
Depp, who is currently busy promoting his upcoming movie in China, is well-known for his unusual choice of roles and with "Transcendence", he has forayed into the genre of big budget sci-fi movies.
Commenting on why he took up the role of a mad scientist, he said in a statement: "What fascinated me more than anything is the co-relation between technology and power - the idea that a guy who is able to download his sentient being into a machine can become god, or a version of god. Religion is a fascinating black hole to me."
Produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by celebrated cinematographer Wally Pfister, "Transcedence" is the story of Will Caster, an artificial intelligence researcher who strives to create a machine that possesses sentience and collective intelligence.
"Transcendence" hits Indian theaters April 18.
