American singer Christina Grimmie, who participated in the sixth season of reality TV show "The Voice", has died after being shot in the head at a concert venue in Orlando. She was 22.

Orlando police department officials said during a news conference that Grimmie was shot at about 10:45 pm on Friday at The Plaza Live, where she had performed earlier, reports guardian.com.

The gunman reportedly shot at her and then killed himself after being tackled by the singer-songwriter’s brother.

Grimmie was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died, said the police.

Police said the suspect “walked up and shot” Grimmie after the performance, while she was signing autographs. The unidentified suspect had two guns, but no motive has been established yet.

    An investigation is ongoing.

Grimmie, who was from New Jersey, finished third during the season six of “The Voice” in 2014. She had Adam Levine as her coach.
