Rapper Snoop Dogg says neither will be watch “Roots”, nor does he want his fans to watch it.
In an Instagram post on Monday, the musician spoke out against the History channel's four-part, eight-hour revival of the the classic mini-series that originally aired in 1977 and was based on the novel by Alex Haley. It's a historical portrait of American slavery recounting the journey of one family.
"How the f**k they gonna put 'Roots' on Memorial Day? They gonna just keep beating that s**t in our heads of how they did us, huh?" he said in the video, reports people.com.
"I don't understand America. They just want to keep showing the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago. But, guess what? We taking the same abuse,” he further added.
Snoop Dogg, 44, went on to say he would prefer to see a series that doesn't retread the painful past of African American history.
"When you all going to make a motherf***ing series about the success black folks is having? The only success we have is Roots and 12 Years a Slave and s**t (show) like that, huh? F*** ya'll. I ain't watching that s**t, (show)" he said.
"F**k them television shows. Let's create our own s**t based on today, how we live, and how we inspire people today,” he added.
