Actor Ryan Gosling has sent an open letter to the American warehouse club, Costco's CEO Craig Jelinek urging the retail company to stop selling eggs from caged chickens.
The letter is said to have been written after Gosling watched the Humane Society of the United States' undercover video showing the cruel conditions at one of the chain's egg suppliers, reports aceshowbiz.com.
"Video footage revealed abhorrent cruelty including rows and rows of birds confined in filth-laden cages with the mummified corpses of their cage mates - eating, sleeping, defecating, and laying eggs on top of dead birds - and hens' wings, legs, and necks trapped in the corroded wires of their battery cages," Gosling wrote in the letter.
The 34-year-old later called the company for its "deceptive" labelling on their cartons which feature graphics of birds living in a green pasture.
At the end of the letter, Gosling urged Costco to go cage-free.
Costco is yet to respond to Gosling's letter.
