Lindsay Lohan Sues News Channel For Drug Claim

Darpan News Desk IANS, 03 Feb, 2015 11:38 AM
  • Lindsay Lohan Sues News Channel For Drug Claim
Actress Lindsay Lohan and her mother Dina Lohan have sued a news channel's TV host Sean Hannity and commentator Michelle Fields for defamation.

The 28-year-old and her mother filed the papers in Manhattan Supreme Court Monday, claiming Fields “falsely, inappropriately and shockingly stated, unequivocally and as a 'matter of fact' that Lindsay Lohan's mother is doing cocaine with her", reports aceshowbiz.com.

The comment was made Feb 4 last year on Hannity's TV show during which Hannity and his guests were discussing celebrities who had died of Ods (an overdose of a narcotic drug), including Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley.

At the time, Fields said: “Lindsay Lohan's mom is doing cocaine with her.”

According to the lawsuit: “Fields made the false, defamatory, heartless, derogatory comment in the context of the show's topic...(It) was a direct smear on the character/reputation of (the Lohans)...(and it) was a totally irresponsible and malicious innuendo...(that) Lindsay Lohan might become the next celebrity to join the obituary list."

The channel, Fox News, already sent an apology letter to the lawyer for Lohan and her mother a year ago, stating that the segment in question had been removed from the network's website.

However, the suit says that the channel didn't fulfill their promise. The actress and her mother ask for the segment to be taken off the website permanently and are seeking unspecified punitive damages.
