With "Court" representing India at the 88th Academy Awards, filmmaker Karan Johar hopes that the film, which opens a chapter on the legal hassles in the Indian judicial system, goes on a "victorious journey" to the Oscars.

"#Court is undeniably a great decision! One of the best films I have seen this year...finger crossed for its victorious journey ahead," Karan tweeted on Thursday.

Chaitanya Tamhane's directorial debut, "Court" made the cut as India's official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 88th Oscars after selection by a Film Federation of India-appointed 17-member jury, led by veteran actor-filmmaker Amol Palekar.

The film has garnered plaudits at several global platforms as it was premiered at the 71st Venice International Film Festival last year, and went on to win a National Film Award in the Best Feature Film category for 2014.

The multilingual film features actors Vivek Gomber, Vira Sathidar, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Pradeep Joshi, Usha Bane and Shirish Pawar, and puts the spotlight on the Indian judicial system through the trial of an ageing folk singer in a lower court in Mumbai.
