John Lenon's First Wife Cynthia Dies At 75

Darpan News Desk IANS, 02 Apr, 2015 12:15 PM
Singer John Lenon's first wife Cynthia Lennon has died at the age of 75 at her home in Mallorca, Spain.

She died on Wednesday, and the news of her death was officially announced on her son Julian Lennon's official website.

"Cynthia Lennon passed away today at her home in Mallorca, Spain, following a short but brave battle with cancer. Her son Julian Lennon was at her bedside throughout. The family are thankful for your prayers,” a statement on the website read, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Julian, who is also a musician, posted a three-minute video on YouTube in which he sings a song written by himself. The video also featured a montage of family photos as a tribute to his loving mother.

The song begins with -- "You gave your life for me, you gave your life for love." Then, it ends with -- "I know you're safe above."

Cynthia met John Lennon in 1959 at music class in Liverpool College of Art when she was 18 years old.

They got married three years later on August 1962 at the Mount Pleasant Register office in Liverpool after finding out that she was pregnant with their son. "You couldn't resist being around him," she said in a 2005 interview with a US television.

They stayed together until 1968, when The Beatles became the world's biggest music group.

Cynthia filed for divorce from John after discovering a letter from artist Yoko Ono. Although John denied having any relationship with the artist and explained that she was just some "crazy artist" who wanted to be sponsored, the two were eventually divorced on November 1968.

Later in 1969, John Lenon married Yoko Ono.
