Jimmy Kimmel Responds To Criticism Of Health Care Views

Darpan News Desk IANS, 09 May, 2017 12:34 PM
After making headlines with a healthcare argument that he sparked following his newborn son's open-heart surgery, popular TV host Jimmy Kimmel returned to "The Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and responded to the criticism that came his way.

Along with providing an update about his son's health, he responded to critics who called him a "Hollywood elitist" for discussing health care.

He returned from paternity leave to his late night show on Monday, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

Last week on "Jimmy KimmelLive!", the host had revealed that his son William Kimmel was born on April 21 with a serious heart issue. His monologue prompted an outpouring of support but also some negative reactions on social networks and in the media.

He said: "One week ago tonight, I made an emotional speech that was seen by millions, and as a result of my powerful words, Republicans in Congress had second thoughts about repeal and replace, they realised that what is right is right - and I saved health insurance in the United States of America! Oh, I didn't? I didn't save it? They voted against it anyway? I really need to pay more attention to the news."

He also mentioned the online backlash he received for his stance on accessible health care, "including from members of the media".

"I can't even count the number of times I've been called an ‘out of touch Hollywood elitist, creep' this week...Anyway, I'd like to apologise for saying that children in America should have health care. That was insensitive - it was offensive - and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me," Kimmel said sarcastically.

He also assured viewers that his son Billy is doing well, and thanked everyone for their support.
