Jennifer Lawrence paid less than male co-stars

Darpan News Desk IANS, 15 Dec, 2014 11:37 AM
  • Jennifer Lawrence paid less than male co-stars
Actress Jennifer Lawrence has had a tough year as she recently found herself in another hacking scandal where it was brought to notice that she was allegedly paid less than her male co-stars in the film "American Hustle".

The latest Sony Pictures e-mail hack shed light on the fact, reports dailymail.co.uk.

A set of emails recently uncovered by The Daily Beast revealed that Lawrence and co-star Amy Adams were given a smaller percentage of the back end, which is a split of the profit after the film breaks even, than director David O. Russell and male stars Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper.

An e-mail dated December 5, 2013, from Andrew Gumpert, president of business affairs and administration for Columbia Pictures, to Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal and Doug Belgrad, president of SPE motion picture group, shows the ladies were getting hustled.

Gumpert says he got a "rush call" from Lawrence's attorneys, Steve Warren and Gretchen Rush, complaining that the men were getting more than the ladies.

The email says: "Got a Steve Warren/Gretchen rush call that it's unfair the male actors get 9 percent in the pool and Jennifer is only at 7pts (percentage points).

"You may recall Jennifer was at 5 (Amy was and is at 7) and WE wanted in 2 extra points for Jennifer to get her up to 7. If anyone needs to top Jennifer up its Megan (Ellison from Annapurna Pictures, which co-financed 'American Hustle'. BUT I think Amy and Jennifer are tied so upping JL, ups AA."

Gumpert added, "The current talent deals are: O'Russell: 9 percent; Cooper: 9 percent; Bale: 9 percent; Renner: 9 percent; Lawrence: 7 percent; Adams: 7 percent."

Pascal's e-mail response to the news of Lawrence making less than her male colleagues was: "there is truth here."
