Actress and philanthropist Angelina Jolie is reportedly in talks to acquire citizenship of Namibia so that she can use her new title - honorary dame - from Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.
The "Tomb Raider" actress was named an honorary dame in the monarch's Birthday Honours List recently for her humanitarian work. However, Jolie can't currently use the title officially as she is not British or a Commonwealth citizen.
Jolie could be formally addressed as a dame if she is granted dual citizenship with Namibia because it is a Commonwealth country, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper, reports contactmusic.com.
The actress, who is in a relationship with Brad Pitt, already has ties to the African nation because her daughter Shiloh was born there in 2006 and has a Namibian passport.
"Angelina was blown away when she was made a dame. She thinks it will add gravitas to her in her humanitarian work," said a source.
A spokesperson for the Namibian Embassy has been quoted as saying: "We would welcome Angelina Jolie to make an application for citizenship, just like anyone else."
