Chris Rock slams Oscars for lack of diversity

Darpan News Desk IANS, 17 Jan, 2016 02:22 PM
Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith have slammed 2016 Oscars nominations list as both the actors have noticed that for the second time in a row, there's a lack of diversity in the selections.

The selections were announced on January 14.

Rock, who is hosting the awards ceremony, bashed the academy for not recognising the coloured people's talents, reports aceshowbiz.com.

The 50-year-old actor and comedian posted a video on Twitter on Friday, captioning it: "The #Oscars. The White BET Awards."

Smith also wrote on Facebook and Twitter pages: "At the Oscars...people of colour are always welcomed to give out awards...even entertain, but we are rarely recognised for our artistic accomplishments."

"Should people of colour refrain from participating all together? People can only treat us in the way in which we allow. With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment, J," she added.

Smith's husband Will Smith was left out of the race for his role in "Concussion".

Others praised but forgotten roles are Idris Elba in "Beasts of No Nation", Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson in "Creed", Oscar Isaac in "Ex Machina", Benicio Del Toro in "Sicario", and Jason Mitchell in "Straight Outta Compton".
