Music fans should mark their calendars and save the date, as the MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS returns for its 25th anniversary, Sunday, June 15!
Much kicks off its annual block party with the huge announcement today that for the first time, the 2014 MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS will be simulcast live on Much and CTV. In keeping with MMVA tradition, the corner of Queen and John lights up for show-stopping performances and appearances by the hottest celebrities handing out the coveted hardware. The 2014 MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS kicks off live coast-to-coast-to-coast at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Much, CTV and CTV GO.
“The MMVAs are a Canadian television institution that becomes more exciting and more relevant each and every year, as they turn 299 Queen Street West into one of the world’s most dynamic music venues” said Phil King, President, CTV, Sports, and Entertainment Programming. “With the CTV simulcast we ensure millions of music fans across the country experience the energy of this amazing show.”
“The MMVAs are an extraordinary time of the year, the 25th Anniversary heightens that, making it even more special,” said Sheila Sullivan, Executive Producer, 2014 MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS. “I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have in store for them!”
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the biggest and best street level awards show in the world. From Gaga’s bra-shooting fireworks and Avril exposing her MMVA ‘tattoo’, to Pamela Anderson kissing Kid Rock and Flo Rida zip-lining onto the stage, the MMVAs has seen it all, bringing fans up close and personal to their favourite artists and celebs.
Over the past quarter-century, the show has stunned fans with exhilarating performances by some of the biggest artists in the world, including Kanye West’s first performance of “Jesus Walks,” with a then-unknown John Legend at the piano, Justin Bieber surprising Miley Cyrus on stage during “Party in the USA”, Lenny Kravitz and The Guess Who performing “American Woman,” and Arcade Fire’s first television performance ever, complete with a marching band.
Each year, the stars step out in style on the live MMVA RED CARPET SPECIAL, home to the most innovative entrances – a tradition for the MMVA red carpet. From Katy Perry riding down the carpet in a working ice cream truck, and the Beastie Boys shooting part of their 2004 “Triple Trouble” music video on the carpet, to Denzel Washington crashing as Lenny Kravitz’s plus-one, the history of the MMVAs carpet is over-the-top.
This year’s electrifying nominees, performers, and presenters will be announced in coming weeks. Full details on accreditation requests for the 2014 MMVAs to be announced.
