Online video community YouTube has announced the opening of YouTube Space Mumbai at filmmaker Subhash Ghai's Whistling Woods International (WWI). It's a collaboration and production facility for YouTube video creators.
Slated to open in late 2015, the Space will allow YouTube creators and students at WWI to learn about video production, collaborate with other creators, and break down resource barriers that inhibit innovation and creativity.
YouTube Space Mumbai is the latest to open after YouTube Spaces in Tokyo, Los Angeles, London, New York, Brazil and Berlin. The facilities are designed so that creators can produce original digital video content, all the way from the start of an idea through to filming, editing and uploading to YouTube.
“The new YouTube Space Mumbai at Whistling Woods International is our latest effort to support the incredible wave of creativity we have seen develop in the Indian YouTube creator community over the last few years.
"By working with Whistling Woods International, we hope to empower India’s next generation of digital creators and WWI students to learn, connect, and create new content, by giving them access to fantastic studios, and cutting edge audio, visual and editing equipment," David Macdonald, head of YouTube Spaces Asia Pacific, said in a statement.
Meghna Ghai Puri, president of Whistling Woods International, said that the institute has been an "innovative force and leading light in the Indian film and media industries for nearly a decade now".
"We recognise that the future of entertainment is online, and all our degree and diploma programmes now include Content Creation, Audience Development and Monetisation for YouTube as part of the curriculum.”
