Upcoming film "Kapoor and Sons" was special to the entire production team for various reasons, feels Karan Johar.
The trailer of "Kapoor and Sons" produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions was unveiled in Mumbai on Wednesday.
"'Kapoor and Sons' is special to all of us for various reasons, also because it makes a huge shift from loving your parents to understanding your children. I think it is a different perspective on family. All families have a series of issues, some hidden secrets, lies and conflicts but eventually it is the cementing factor in all our lives," Karan said at the trailer launch.
The starcast -- Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ratna Pathak Shah and Rajat Kapoor -- was present at the event.
"'Kapoor and Sons' touches upon the happy days, some sad ones that we need to overcome, and the film deals with these issues in their own manner," Karan said.
The film sees the return of director Shakun Batra who had previously directed the Imran Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer "Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu".
It captures the on-and-off bond between Sidharth and Fawad who play brothers, Rajat and Ratna their parents and the overall ups and downs in the Kapoor family, while Alia gets involved with the family through her bond with the brothers at various points of the story.
An interesting part of the trailer, though, is the 'old' Mr. Kapoor -- played by Rishi Kapoor.
About his look, Karan said: "Chintu ji's (Kapoor) age is in the 60s, and he had to portray a role of an 85-90-year old. And obviously there was a need for makeup and we got a team for it, it's usually prosthetic makeup."
"It used to take 3-4 hours every day, and it is tough for an artist to sit on the chair for that long and on top of that, to perform with all of it on your face. It needs a certain kind of experience and tremendous talent, to perform through that. It was a specific look, and Chintuji looked convincing," Karan said.
"Kapoor and Sons", presented by Fox Star Studios, releases on March 18.
