Veteran actor Anupam Kher says he has bought his "first ever" home here as a gift to his mother, after spending an entire childhood in rented apartments and rented homes.

Anupam posted a minute-long video, sharing the news. Seen in the backdrop is a picturesque view of the hill station.

"We Indians want to have our own home in a place where we grew up. Happy to share, we have our first ever home in Shimla. Presented it to mom," he captioned the video.

In the video, the 62-year-old actor says: "We Indians spend our entire lives wishing that where were born and brought up, the place where we grew up we should have our own home there. I was born in Shimla and right now I am in Jutogh, which is a few kms away from Shimla."

"My father was a clerk here in the forest department. Our whole lives we spent in government quarters and rented homes and due to some reasons, I was unable to buy a house here."

"But now, today I am in Shimla and I have bought a small home here which I would like to gift to my mother. She is extremely happy, has been teary-eyed since yesterday and said that this is the most beautiful thing that could have happened to her."

"Wish my father was here... So as of now, I am in this beautiful place, amid the fragrance of fresh air of the ranges and the greenery, and it feels great, which is why I wanted to share this happiness with you all. Give us blessings, give us lot of love, my mother is a very happy person today."

Anupam is known for his work in films like "Saaransh", "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge", "Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara", "Bend It Like Beckham", "A Wednesday" and Hollywood projects like "Silver Linings Playbook" and "The Headhunter's Calling".
