Vidya Vows To Eliminate Male-female Disparity In Bollywood

Darpan News Desk IANS, 05 Jun, 2015 01:59 PM
Actress Vidya Balan on Friday said she will strive to end the male-female disparity in Bollywood, especially as far as money is concerned.

"We were always part of a male-dominated society. But now with films and TV, there seems to be a prominent shift now and perhaps it is going to be a female-dominated society," she said in an appearance at Ekta Kapoor's TV show "Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyar" to promote her upcoming project "Hamari Adhuri Kahani".

Vidya, who began her journey in showbiz with Ekta's "Hum Paanch", said she feels women are ruling the roost in TV. "Actresses on TV get paid extremely well and this has to be appreciated."

Noting several female-oriented films like "Piku", "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" and "NH 10" have done extremely well at the box-office which has proven that actresses are not mere eye-candy, Vidya said: "There is a huge pay disparity between males and females in Bollywood. But I'm sure with time, this gap would reduce. We will definitely fight to bridge this gap."
