The Supreme Court on Friday stayed proceedings before a civil court in Haryana's Rohtak against film star Anil Kapoor's company over the title of a proposed film "Veere Di Weeding".
Issuing notice to the respondent, Make My Day Entertainment, the bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, and Justice A.M. Khanwilkar stayed the proceedibgs before the Rohtak court but proceedings before the Bombay High Court initiated by Anil Kapoor's company would continue.
Make My Day Entertainment has initiated the proceedings against Anil Kapoor's film company as it too is producing a film with the title of "Veere Ki Wedding".
Senior counsel Mukul Rohtagi said that the proceedings before the Rohatak court were initiated by the Make My Day Entertainment as a counter to the proceeding initiated by Anil Kapoor before the high court. Anil Kapoor has said that the case before the Rohtak court was malafide and with ulterior motives to harass the Kapoors, the film crew and others.
"Veere Di Wedding", being produced by Anil Kapoor's company, is in Punjabi.
