'Soorma' Producer To Present Biopic Of Canadian Sikh Boxer Pardeep Nagra

IANS, 20 Nov, 2018 02:08 PM
After the success of "Soorma', a biopic based on the life of celebrated Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh, Deepak Singh, one of the producers of the film has decided to present a movie called "Tiger" on Indo-Canadian boxer Pardeep Nagra.

Asked about the reason behind choosing the story of Nagra, Deepak said in a statement: "After 'Soorma', I thought this is again a story to be told to people as Pardeep Nagra is a fighter and instead of giving up, he stood with his sentiments and religious beliefs and fought like a tiger and won."

The film is a crossover project that features Indian and international actors like Mickey Rourke, Janel Parrish, Prem Singh and Michael Pugliese among others.

The film is co-produced by Rocco Pugliese.

The story of Nagra came to the fore when he was banned by the Canadian Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) in 2000 because of his beard.

"When I heard from Rocco Pugliese I immediately said yes, let's do this because Nagra has gone ahead and done for Sikhism. He stood by, so the community should also acknowledge his efforts," Deepak said.

He added that Nagra's story needs to be told to everyone.

"He could have given up easily thinking who will fight with the Canadian and US laws of International ABC."

"Tiger" was screened by the JK Livin Foundation in the US last week along with the cast and crew of the film and received a positive response.

Directed by Alister Grierson, the film will be released in the US and Canada on November 30.
