Sonakshi Sinha Wants To Use Star Power For Right Cause

Darpan News Desk IANS, 03 Mar, 2016 12:29 PM
With Women's Day just around the corner, actress Sonakshi Sinha says she is privileged to have a voice of her own with the freedom to make a choice, and feels obliged to put her power to “good use and support people to stand up for their own rights”.

Bollywood's "Shotgun Junior”, who became a part of a TV show “Mission Sapne” to raise awareness about violence against women, asserted that it's time for gender equality.

“There is no task that a woman can’t do and a man can. We are fortunate to receive the right kind of support and freedom to make our own choices. It is our responsibility to put our power to good use and support people to stand up for their own rights,” Sonakshi said in a statement.

Sonakshi took some time off from her Bollywood life to be on the small screen through the Colors show to support the cause of a Lucknow-based NGO Red Brigade, led by activist Usha Vishwakarma. The cause aims to empower survivors of sexual violence by teaching self-defence techniques.

For the show, the “Dabangg” actress will become a flower vendor for a day to raise funds for Vishwakarma and her NGO’s welfare. She will also learn to meticulously arrange the blooms in the vases.

Along with running the business, Sonakshi will also reach out to people and request them to stand up for ending violence against women.

On the film front, the actress will soon be seen in “Akira” and “Force 2”.
