Shilpa Shetty Kundra salutes 'heroic' homemakers

Darpan News Desk IANS, 10 Dec, 2015 10:36 AM
  • Shilpa Shetty Kundra salutes 'heroic' homemakers
Actress-entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty Kundra is all praises for homemakers, who, she feels, do a heroic and the biggest job in the world.

"If I had my way, I'd be at home 24x7 because I really think that being a homemaker is the biggest job in the world. It's truly heroic. There are women out there who dedicate the 24x7 of their lives to their families and it's a thankless job. They're not getting paid for it and they do it with a smile on their face... I salute those women," said Shilpa at the Sheroes Summit.

"They (these women) like to be there to pick their son from school, make sure they're there on time, to cook food for their husbands when they come back from work. To cater and pander to his demands, in-laws' demands and be dead meat by the end of the night. And still wake up in the morning again to prepare the lunch for his 'dabba' and drop the child to school."

Shilpa, who married Britain-based businessman Raj Kundra in 2009 and has a son Viaan with him, had stayed off films in the last few years. And she has got more involved in her businesses which included being co-owners of IPL team Rajasthan Royals some time back.

Currently she and her husband own a chain of spas names Iosis, a home shopping TV channel Best Deal TV and recently launched a range of phones named after her son. But despite all these interests, motherhood remains the priority for her.

"I still very clearly maintain that I'm a full-time mother and the rest that I do is part-time. I'm fortunate that I can delegate those (business) jobs to my husband Raj Kundra. I have a great business partner who helps me run it.

"The only job that I can't delegate to others is the job of a mother, for that I have to be there personally. From the time Viaan has been born, I pick him and drop him to school and I enjoy doing that, for me all the rest is just incidental," she said.

Shilpa has also recently come up with her book on diet and nutrition, titled "The Great Indian Diet".
