Shah Rukh Khan Turns 50, 'Humbled' By Fans' Love

Darpan News Desk IANS, 02 Nov, 2015 11:45 AM
  • Shah Rukh Khan Turns 50, 'Humbled' By Fans' Love
It was a scene right out of "Om Shanti Om" -- with a gleam in his eyes, SRK stood in a balcony of his house Mannat here, blew kisses to his fans, waved and smiled at them. On his 50th birthday on Monday, the Bollywood superstar was "humbled" by the love that his fans showered on him.

Cameras went clickety-click and lights flashed as seen in a video that the 'Badshah' posted on his Facebook page. There was a loud cheer and whistles from the crowd that filled the street outside Shah Rukh's house in Bandra here.

Even before the clock struck 12, fans had begun gathering outside, and the attention made the star be grateful for the love that his audiences have showered on him since over two decades of his Bollywood career.

It's this love that keeps him going.

"Right now so humbled by the attention and love being given to my birthday. Didn't ever realise living will be so beautiful. Thanks all," Shah Rukh shared on social media platforms.

At night, he even cut a cake with his family members -- wife Gauri, sons Aryan and AbRam and daughter Suhana.

"Happy birthday Shah Rukh... it's just us tonight," Gauri posted with a photograph on Facebook. The actor is seen cutting a cake with white frosting.

On his special day, SRK reached out to his fans to treat them with a glimpse into his upcoming movie "Fan", a Yash Raj Films (YRF) production.

"Today as I turn 50, I turn 25 again - for all the years of love you hav given me, I give you my most heartfelt creation. Gaurav the FAN. You and I are a belief," he posted.

The film, directed by Maneesh Sharma, stars SRK as a fan.

Its first 63-second teaser was launched earlier this year, but on his birthday, SRK released the second teaser -- a much-longer version -- for his fans.

YRF had earlier described the film as: "Two powerhouses. One special tribute. SRK in and as Fan."

And the new teaser shows that the movie can't be described any better. It's about Gaurav, a commoner, who's in awe of superstar Aryan Khanna -- much like several Bollywood buffs who worship cine stars like a god -- in India, which is one of the leading producers of films in the world.

Only a few hours after releasing the teaser and since bringing in his birthday, SRK shared: "It's been a few hours and I have received such unconditional love and wishes for my smile, I think it's time I find new reasons to smile from today."

A host of his celebrity friends, including names like Karan Johar, Hrithik Roshan, Anupam Kher and Preity Zinta, took to Twitter to wish SRK. Some shared how the actor's journey from the small screen to the big screen has been inspirational; while others said his charm and warmth makes them consider him like family.

SRK, who has featured in a melange of action, romantic, dramatic and comedy roles through his career, is one of the most successful actors in Hindi cinema. His fan following is global, and his charm, unmatched.

With films like "Baazigar", "Badshah", "Duplicate", "Karan Arjun", "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Dil To Pagal Hai", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Dil Se..", "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham", "Swades", "Kal Ho Naa Ho" and "My Name Is Khan" -- he has won his fans over and over again.

The saga will continue with "Dilwale" and "Fan". So, as he says in "Om Shanti Om", "picture abhi baaki hai".

SRK'S BIRTHDAY RESOLUTION TO ENTERTAIN MORE

Bollywood 'Badshah' Shahrukh Khan, who celebrated his 50th birthday on Monday, promised to be always in high spirits and keep entertaining his fans.

"On my birthday, I promise to be in high spirits always and keep entertaining my fans. I would like to stay humorous to my admirers," Shahrukh, who is known for his jovial and witty nature, said at an event to celebrate his birthday.

On why girls were "madly in love" with him, he said: "The only reason women like me is because I respect them in a way that they fall in love with me. I always show graciousness to every woman I meet in my life."

The "Dilwale" actor also spoke about his co-star Deepika Padukone, with whom he has given hits like "Om Shanti Om", "Chennai Express" and "Happy New Year".

This time, Deepika's film "Bajirao Mastani" is clashing with his film "Dilwale".

"I can say Deepika is a lucky charm and it's not good that both our films are coming together but I think in this period both can do well," he said.

The actor also released the second trailer of his upcoming film "Fan", as a gesture of "return gift" for his admirers.

About this film, he said: "'Fan' is the most special film for me till now. Hope I have done it right. I aspire to make five radical films in my career which I feel proud about when I show it to my children. I think 'Fan' is one of them."

"I never thought someday I would be called King of Bollywood. This industry has showered me with so much love. I have got more than double what I had in my early phases. If tomorrow I am not remembered, it's okay, but if my work is remembered, that's enough for me," he said.

The actor is currently busy shooting for Rohit Shetty's "Dilwale", and said he celebrated his birthday in a very simple way.

"Right now, shooting has not completed for 'Dilwale'. After that we will be partying hard. I didn't receive any gift from my family as we believe in simple celebrations," he said.

MAY YOU CONTINUE TO SHINE ON: AAMIR ON SRK'S B-DAY

Bollywood's 'Mr. Perfectionist' Aamir Khan wished Hindi films' 'Badshah' Shah Rukh Khan on his 50th birthday on Monday, and said he hopes Shah Rukh “continues to shine” in the world of glitz and glamour.

“Hey Shah, many happy returns of the day. May you continue to shine and give us joy. Love,” Aamir tweeted.

Aamir and Shah Rukh are two of the film industry's “Three Khans”, whose positions are vied by many. The third is Salman Khan.

Aamir has never shared screen space with the 'King of Romance' Shah Rukh, but has always maintained a cordial relationship with him.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh, who started his journey in showbiz with a television serial, is now known as Bollywood's 'Badshah' with hit films like "Baazigar", “Karan Arjun", "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" and "My Name Is Khan".

He is gearing up to bring his magic on the silver screen again with “Dilwale”, “Fan” and “Raees”.
