  • Shabana looks at Javed's 50-year journey with 'respect'
Respect is the only word and thought on veteran actress and social activist Shabana Azmi's mind when she thinks of her husband Javed Akhtar's journey in Mumbai since he first stepped into the city on this day 50 years ago.

"50 years ago Javed Akhtar came 2 Bombay 2 pursue career in films - slept on d streets no food 4 days only talent n determination. RESPECT," Shabana posted on her Twitter page Saturday.

The 69-year-old got his first break in "Yakeen" (1969), and since then, he has been credited with a slew of songs, scripts and poems, which have been highly appreciated.

Farhan Akhtar, Javed's son from his first marriage to Honey Irani, said the family has celebrated his journey with a lunch.

"Lunch with the family today to mark 50 years since @Javedakhtarjadu first stepped off a train at Bombay Central station with a big dream," tweeted the actor-filmmaker.
