Sarbjit declared tax-free in UP

Darpan News Desk IANS, 18 May, 2016 11:29 AM
The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday declared Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer “Sarbjit” tax free. Its makers are humbled by the gesture.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who met the film's team earlier this month, said that the “decision will be implemented with immediate effect”, said a statement from the makers.

"From day one, we have all believed that 'Sarbjit' is a story that needed to be told. It's our labour of love and the team and I are humbled by Akhilesh Yadav's kind gesture," said Jackky Bhagnani, who has turned producer with the film.

"He has been supportive from the very beginning and this decision has only strengthened our belief in our film,” he added.

"Sarbjit", releasing on May 20, will narrate the struggle of Dalbir Kaur, whose sole aim in life was to get her brother, who had been mistakenly taken to be an Indian spy, out of the Pakistani jail. Actor Randeep Hooda will essay the role of Sarabjit Singh, while Aishwarya will be stepping into Dalbir's shoes in the film.

The film is directed by Omung Kumar.
