Sara Ali Khan explains why she enjoys being 'an Indian desi girl'

Mumbai, May 15 (IANS) Sara Ali Khan believes that the relatability of her characters comes from the fact that she strongly relates with the pulse of her country and enjoys being "an Indian desi girl."
Her girl-next-door avatar has always been a fan favourite and once again she will be seen playing a young middle-class woman opposite Vicky Kaushal in the forthcoming Laxman Utekar directorial 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke'.
When asked if she opts for such roles only to gain an edge over otrher actors, Sara Ali Khan said: "I don't know if it's about gaining an edge, but the truth is that I think I really relate very strongly with the pulse of my country.
"I have grown up thinking of myself as just another Indian desi girl from Juhu, who lives with her mama, and doesn't really have any frills and fancies, and filmy friends, to be honest with you."
Continuing in the same vein, Sara said: "So, one has always grown up being very proud of one's Indian-ness. I think that is a more personal thing; I think it is (Abhishek Kapoor) Gatto sir's vision or (Aanand L. Rai) Anand Sir's guidance, or Laxman Sir's instructions that make me feel like a character you can relate to, I think that is what this really is all about, at least for me."
Abhishek Kapoor helmed Sara in the much-acclaimed 'Kedarnath' and Aanand L. Rai in the Dhanush-Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Atrangi Re'.
A small-town love story about two warring partners, 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke' is backed by Dinesh Vijan under th Maddock Films banner. The film, slated for a June 2 release, also stars Rakesh Bedi, Sharib Hashmi and Neeraj Sood.
Apart from 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke', Sara is also busy with 'Ae Watan Mere Watan', 'Murder Mubarak' and Jagan Shakti's as-yet untitled project.
In the first photo, Ashutosh and Renuka sat inside a car as they wore ethnic outfits. The second selfie was clicked inside the theatre as the duo smiled and posed for the camera. Shah Rukh and Renuka essayed Shekharan Rai and Maria respectively in the 1989 television series 'Circus'.
Preparations have also started at the Suryagarh Hotel. Special security arrangements have been made to monitor the security of the VVIP guests who have been invited in the wedding. Sources said that a wedding planner company in Mumbai is looking after the arrangements.
The couple is coming together for a comedy-drama which is penned by popular author Chetan Bhagat. The shoot for the film has already culminated and was shot in Mumbai. Angad will be playing the character of Raghavan Rao and Neha plays the role of his wife, Savi.
The overseas gross on day 7 is at Rs. 15 crore. In 7 days, 'Pathaan' has recorded $29.27 million (Rs. 238.5 crores) in the overseas territories alone, while nett collection in India stands at Rs. 330.25 (Hindi - Rs. 318.50 crores, dubbed - Rs. 11.75 crores).
After a lull of nearly two years, cinephiles can finally look forward to all kinds of cinematic treats this year. 2023 is all geared up to welcome a fresh line-up of titles ranging from blockbusters and jaw-dropping action extravaganzas like Pathaan, Tiger 3, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Jawan to inspiring biopics and crime thrillers like Maidaan and Animal.
Shah Rukh Khan has thanked, without naming anyone, "all those" whom he had "made calls to", for enabling "Pathaan" "to be watched by people with love". He said this at a nationally televised interaction with the media and fans at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. Journalists were not allowed to pose questions at the event organised by Yash Raj Films on Monday.
