  • Salman Khan Leads Bollywood In Advance Tax For 2016-17, Kapil Sharma Sees 206% Jump
Salman Khan continues to rule Bollywood. He paid the highest advance tax for the financial year 2016-17, a report says.

According to India Today, who are quoting an Income Tax Department official, Salman paid an estimated Rs 44 crore in advance tax, beating out Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan.

It should be noted that figures for stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan were not made public because of their involvement in the Panama Papers scandal.

Salman cemented his position as Bollywood’s highest paid star, jumping 39% from last year, when he paid Rs 32 in advance tax.

Akshay Kumar, who delivered a string of hits in 2016, paid Rs 29 crore, coming in at number 2. Hrithik Roshan came in at number 3, with Rs 25.5 crore in tax payments.

But the biggest year-to-year jump came from comedian Kapil Sharma, who paid Rs 23 crore for 2016, as compared to Rs 7 crore in the previous year. This is a 206% increase.

Ranbir Kapoor’s stock took a drop, according to the report. The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil star, who paid Rs 22.3 crore in the last financial year, paid Rs 16 crore for 2016-17.

Surprisingly, Aamir Khan, who delivered an all-time blockbuster in 2016 with Dangal (according to India Today, it made a profit of Rs 140 crore), paid only Rs 14 crore in advance tax.

As far as the female actors go, Deepika Padukone, who made her Hollywood debut with xXx: Return of Xander Cage, paid Rs 10 crore in tax, followed by Alia Bhatt (Rs 4.3 crore) and Kareena Kapoor (Rs 3.9 crore). It should be noted that figures for only these actors were made available.
